I love natural medicine and feature it to be the medicine of choice of the future.
Now, I'm not talking about trauma / battlefield medicine involved in life or death events. I'm referring to the medical choices people make that relates to long/healthy/painless lives of freedom from such situations as diabetes..heart disease...cancer...artheritis...osteoporous...cholesterol...cognitive declines...depression. A recent issue of the Harvard Health Letter (IV 2008) said as much "non-pharmacological approach is as good or better than pills"
As much as I advocate for natural medicine, I am also painfully aware of the amount of poor/exaggerated information/ claims that are made. Now if waving an eagle wing over your head makes your headache go away, then do it twice, but don't start claiming that it somehow removed miasmas from your aura or meridian field. Be willing to admit that your mental state was involved. As a general practitioner in natural medicine , I am still responsible to rule out blatant problems of neurological/orthopedic nature.
In the blogs in the future I'd like to discuss some aspects of natural medicine that often have a root of truth, but are over-hyped, sometimes grossly. These would include HOMEOPATHY/VACCINATIONS.....ENERGY TREATMENTS (REIKI/ EAV MACHINES /CHI MACHINES / VERY LOW FORCE CHIROPRACTIC / COLOUR THERAPY / RADIONICS)..ACUPUNCTURE....APPLIED KINESIOLOGY....SHAMANISM...OMEGA 3 OILS...MEGA DOSES OF NUTRIENTS...MAGIC JUICES FROM FAR AWAY...and claiming that a one remedy will solve all your problems without any responsibility on your part or that basic truths can be ignored if the magic (whether natural or allopathic) pill/treatment is done.
If you are interested in these topics, please feel free to call and we can discuss them before I get around to writing. I hate it when people give up on natural medicine without trying something which is scientifically backed up. Don't get me wrong, what passes for science these days can be a veiled spin for drugs and high tech( read expensive ) rip off. SITES I trust are NUTRI-SPEC.NET / PPNF.COM /KENOGEN.COM /CANCER DECISIONS.COM.
I will be glad when good medicine is what counts , when people are valued more highly than profits. As it is now , I too often see two extremes....drugs/surgery or woo-woo. There is a middle ground of rational medicine. I believe in my lifetime in will be the norm. Thanks for reading, if I can be of service to answer any questions, please feel free to call or write.
